Once your organisation passes about ten machines, a server stops being a luxury and becomes an operational necessity. Before one, every employee keeps files on their own desktop, every machine has a different password, and nobody is certain which copy of the contract is the current one. After one, accounts are unified, files are central, permissions are governed, and the backup runs on schedule without anyone having to remember it.

We handle the full path: sizing the expected load and specifying hardware that actually fits — neither the most expensive option nor the cheapest — then supply and installation in a tidy, ventilated cabinet, installation and configuration of Windows Server or Linux, RAID and storage layout, and a virtualisation layer where it earns its place, so several logical servers run on one machine instead of buying three.

The real benefit starts after commissioning. A new employee is working within minutes on a ready account with permissions already defined for their department. A departing employee loses access to everything with one action, instead of chasing passwords across ten systems. Files no longer live on one person’s machine. And on the day a workstation dies, nothing dies with it.

Windows Server or Linux (Ubuntu / Debian) installed and configured, with Proxmox or Hyper-V virtual environments where consolidating several logical servers onto one machine lowers both cost and power draw.

Domain and permissions

Active Directory domain and organisational units, staff accounts, Group Policy, and folder permissions structured by department and seniority rather than handed out ad hoc.

Core network services

DNS, DHCP, central file and print services, IIS and internal application hosting — so the network behaves as one system rather than a set of adjacent machines.

Storage and RAID

Capacity planning and RAID configuration balanced between speed and protection, with headroom calculated to last rather than fill within months.

Scheduled backup

Automated daily and weekly backup, one copy local and one off-site, with periodic restore testing — a backup nobody has tested is not a backup.

Workstations joined to the domain

Staff machines built to a consistent image and joined to the domain, with standardised software, drivers and settings, and user data migrated off the old hardware.

Monitoring and documentation

Server health, disk space and temperature monitored with alerts before a failure rather than after, plus a system handbook covering diagrams, device details, settings and warranties.

Frequently asked questions

How many machines justify a server?

The working rule is around ten, but count is not the only measure. A seven-person office sharing sensitive files and needing different permission levels benefits more than a fifteen-machine site where each device works independently. The real question is whether your data needs to be central and governed.

Do we need a physical server, or is cloud enough?

Usually both. Email and office documents run well on Microsoft 365, while accounting databases, camera recordings and large design files stay faster and cheaper on site. We design so the two halves work together, rather than selling you one of them outright.

What happens to the system during a power cut?

The server always sits behind a correctly sized UPS, which gives it enough time for an orderly shutdown instead of the abrupt loss that corrupts databases. For organisations that cannot tolerate downtime, we add a generator or a second power path as required.

Do you use licensed operating systems?

Yes, and licence cost appears in the quotation from the start rather than surfacing later. Where an open-source alternative genuinely fits — Linux for a file server or an internal application — we present it alongside the cost and support differences so the decision is yours.

Who holds the server passwords after handover?

You do. All credentials and settings are handed over in the system handbook at completion. We keep no exclusive access that would make your operation dependent on keeping us on contract.
